Newt NeuritisNEWT NEURITIS

I'm Newt Neuritis, but if someone is looking for a shorter name for me, they can just call me Pain. That is my principle symptom - pain.

I start with irritation along a nerve, often accompanied by sensations of burning and tingling. Then as my pain progresses to a more extreme form, numbness may set in, sometimes followed by paralysis, loss of reflexes, and a general wasting away of muscular strength.

My last name, 'Neuritis', means "inflammation of a nerve". I can happen to just about any nerve in your body, But I'm most likely to show up in nerves supplying energy to the upper and lower extremities.

Basically, what happens in your body is this. A very intricate and complicated nerve network supplies messages in the form of nerve energy to all the organs and muscles in the body. The size of the nerve fibers and nerve trunks, varies considerably.

Whether I can keep you just mildly annoyed or writhing in pain depends on the type, size and number of nerves that I inflame. My early states often begin with inflammation in the sheath or nerve covering.

But if I stick around long enough I can become chronic. At that point I penetrate the actual trunk of the nerve, and you have big trouble with a capital Newt. The pain itself is bad enough, but if I am allowed to continue, I will actually break down the fibers of the nerve itself, and displace them with a connective tissue that simply is not capable of carrying nerve messages.

If I am a motor nerve, the muscles that nerve supplies will no longer be able to contract properly. In extended cases, I can even cause paralysis.

That is one of the reasons I don't understand, although I appreciate it, why persons suffering in agony of Newt Neuritis don't go immediately to the person best qualified to find my cause and to correct it. That is obviously your Doctor of Chiropractic.

Your doctor has spent years in college becoming proficient in determining which nerves are affected and in knowing the way to make the gentle corrections necessary to let nature take over in her masterful healing process.

The most likely place for me to have my origin is down the nervous system's main highway - the spinal column. If a vertebra is misaligned, it means that a nerve is going to be affected. The greater or more complex the misalignment, the more serious the damage can be.

Everyone knows that if the nerves leading to various muscles in the body are destroyed or severed, it causes paralysis. What makes me so insidious is that I may start as some slight irritation to the nerve leading to the muscles. And end up causing total non-function.

You think you have to learn to "live with pain" and "limitation of movement." This is a foolish attitude, for Newt Neuritis is the only one who profits. If you ignore me, I can turn into Paul Paralysis - perhaps in an irreversible form.

There is one thing that Newt Neuritis can't tolerate. That is common sense. If you don't want me around, call a Doctor of Chiropractic today. They are real nerve specialists. That makes such good sense that I'll likely beat a fast retreat.
