"The nervous system controls and coordinates all organs and structures the human body."

SUBLUXATION, YOUR HEALTH'S WORST ENEMY

The art and science of structural alignment, principally by spinal adjustments, was given the name. "Chiropractic" over 80 years ago. It was defined, then refined, into a specific, natural healing art based on the principles that; the best health cannot be gained or maintained without the normal, natural alignment of the spinal column which results in freedom from nerve interference. *To the degree that you enjoy freedom from nerve interference, you are also more likely to enjoy good health.

THE ALIGNMENT OF THE SPINAL VERTEBRAE AND THE DISCS BETWEEN THEM IS A MAJOR KEY TO GOOD HEALTH

"Subluxation" is the term that doctors of chiropractic use to describe the misalignment of spinal vertebrae and discs resulting in nerve pressure. Even a slight misalignment can produce pressure and irritation upon nerves and when this happens the transmission of vital nerve energy to the organs, cells, and tissues of the body can be altered.

The ordinary stresses and strains of normal living, and even the unavoidable downward pull of gravity on the upright body, often overcome body balance and produce poor posture; misalignment of the spinal vertebrae and discs may result.

Think of how many people you see every day who have their heads tilted to one side, stooped or unbalanced shoulders, hollow backs, uneven hips, spinal curvatures, or flat feet. You can be sure that people who exhibit these or similar characteristics are candidates for nerve, muscle, and spine problems, to say nothing of possible heart trouble, stomach trouble, headaches, backaches, sciatica, and a host of other conditions in seemingly unrelated areas of the body.

*The words "interference," "pressure," "pinch," ect are used for better understanding. The scientific term is "irritation".

It is a law of nature that when the body is out of balance and the spinal vertebrae and discs are sublated, discomfort, pain and illness can result. Dozens of conditions may be caused by this type of nerve interference.

"PINCHED" NERVES CAN CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS

We have said that spinal misalignment which produce pressure on nerves, or "pinch" them, are called subluxations. A subluxation may occur from everyday stresses and strains such as those caused by a simple twist or turn. Or a fall or injury may result in subluxations. They can be produced by any type of shock that overloads the nervous system's protective mechanism.

Everyone knows that a broken neck, back or similar spinal injury can produce pressure on the nerves to the extent that partial or even complete paralysis of parts of the body can result. Gov. George Wallace is a well-known example.

We seem, however to shut our minds to the very real possibility that harmful, though less serve, pressure on these same nerves can cause what usually amounts to slight paralysis (decreased activity). or even its reverse, dangerously increased activity.

Examples of this are a sluggish liver or gall bladder, or the reverse, an over-active stomach or rapid heartbeat. Indeed, irritated nerves can cause either decreased or increased body function in whatever organs those nerves supply.

Affected organs must have the same attention that is given to more severely paralyzed body areas. The normal, natural, nerve energy which has been denied them must be restored. Organs, tissues, and cells cannot maintain health without guidance from the brain, through nerve impulses.

HOW NERVES BECOME PINCHED

Atop the spinal column rests the skull, which houses and protects the brain from which most nerves originate. Form the brain, the nerves extend downward through the spinal cord. The vertebrae form a vertical canal which houses and protects the spinal cord.

Thirty-one pairs of nerve roots emerge from the spinal cord through openings between the vertebrae. Each nerve extends to, and controls, a specific area of the body. When the spine is in proper alignment, the nerve flow can travel unrestricted to its destination. But when one or more vertebrae and the discs between them become misaligned, normal nerve flow may be altered, and if so, the functions of the parts of the body that are served by the involved nerves is impaired.

For years, some health care professionals resisted the chiropractic principle of misalignment vertebrae or spinal disc thinning or wedging, causing nerve pressure and irritation.

Today, it has been clinically and scientifically proven, and one can find references to "pinched nerves" and "nerve pressure" in many reports of medical research. The popular industrial booklet, Care of Back, by William K Ishmael, M.D., F.A.C.P., and Howard B. Shorbe, M.D.,F.A.C.s., explains,"[The vertebrae can] come closer together, pressing on the nerves coming out between them. This pressure on the nerves may cause pain..."

Modern medical journalists consistently report outstanding results obtained by methods that Doctors of Chiropractic have been using for over three-quarters of a century!

ONLY NATURE HEALS! CHIROPRACTIC PROVES IT

Yes, only nature heals. And the only help she often needs is to eliminate nerve interference. When the body structure is out of balance or a vertebra and disc, or other joint, slip out of alignment, natures healing may be slowed by the resulting interference to normal nerve supply. When this happens, the chiropractor must be called upon to help eliminate this nerve interference.

He uses no drugs. He puts nothing into the body and takes nothing out. He knows that nature can and will correct many, if not most, health problems if the nerve impulses are allowed to flow freely to the affected areas. The Chiropractor, therefore, concentrates on bringing the body into healthful balance so that every nerve can perform the essential, life-supporting job that nature intended.

SUBLUXATIONS MAY OCCUR DAILY

Minor subluxations may occur in your spinal every day, but vertebrae that are surrounded by strong, healthy muscles and tissues can often return naturally to their accustomed positions. A slight misalignment often corrects itself when the body is in a state of proper rest, such as during a good night's sleep. However, a subluxation, especially one of long duration, needs help to be corrected. Doctors of Chiropractic give that help.

Since at the beginning of modern history, mankind has relied to a large extend on drugs and surgery to cure its ills and restore its health. But the world is still full of sickness and suffering.

Today, more than 40,000,000 Americans have revised their thinking about the drug-surgery theory of healing, and millions more questions the very premise upon which it is based. Each year about 4,000,000 more Americans are turning to chiropractic - a drugless, knife less, natural method of health care that produces results, usually after other methods have failed.

YOUR SPINAL COLUMN AND NERVOUS SYSTEM ARE AS UNIQUE AS YOUR FINGERPRINTS!

The chiropractor's six years of highly specialized college training enables him to render the specific care that your own unique body must have. He is the only health care professional who has the expertise to restore normal nerve functions through natural corrections of spinal vertebrae and discs and other body joints.

Whatever your health problem may be, don't let drugs and painkillers delay proper treatment. For delay only makes health problems grow worse. Consult a chiropractor immediately. He will look for the underlying cause of the problem, and if he finds that yours is a chiropractic case he will give you - and nature - the help needed.
