sacroiliac trouble SACROILIAC TROUBLE

Unless you are very young, you have heard the soong about "the strange click clack in the back of my sacroiliac." I sound pretty simple in the song. In reality I'm fairly complicated and I'm definately painful. One thing going for you, though, I don't generally just "come on." I have a definite cause, and when found I can be tossed out on my sacroiliac.

I was about to tell you to consult your Doctor of Chiropractic, but I'm getting ahead of my story. I'll leave that until I tell you a bit more about myself.

You have a thing called a sacrum. This is a large bone at the bottom of your spine which supports the entire spine. On each side of the sacrum are the two curved pelvic (hip) bones. Underneath the sacrum is the final tip of the spinal column - the coccyx.

The junction of the largest bone of the hip and the sacrum is the sacroiliac joint. It is a hard-working joint because it assists in the rotation and pivot of the body; and it helps protect the sacrum, which bears the weight and tension of the 24 vertebrae above it.

The sacroiliac responds to the activity of the legs and feet, and this is a full-time job. It is pretty easy to see why this hard-working joint often gets overworked or strained. When this happens I'm johnny on the spot; so when Click Clack the Sacroiliac Pain hits you, you know you've been hit!

Funny thing about me is the million ways I can sneak into your life. Perhaps you lift a heavy sack of groceries from the car at an awkward angle. You do a big load of ironing. You go out for an evening's dancing in 3 -inch heels with someone who can't dance. Maybe you slip and fall on an icy pavement, or at the skating rink. You might do something no more dramatic than sleeping on a too-soft mattress.

Anyway, whatever the cause, I storm into the scene and your pain may range from merely annoying to excruciating. I am usually felt, though, as a sharp, stabbing pain in the lower back. The pain may radiate down your legs and be felt as a painful, neuritic-like sensation in the muscles and nerves below the hips.

The Doctor of Chiropractic and I are anything but friends. . . because we dislike each other. I hate all those years spent in college, the rigid training designed so the chiropractor can expel me from your body with true precision and a minimum of pain. I hate the x-ray equipment utilized so effectively by the Doctor of chiropractic with the scientifically-developed analysis which can spot me, in most instances, in just a few minutes.

I hate the training also received, which enables the application of gentle adjustments that eliminate the nerve irritation, so  nature will be able to use its healing processes to keep you well and strong and feeling good. This leaves me homeless.

The Doctor of Chiropractic hates me because of the knowledge that I am an unnecessary pain in the back that many people bear because they do not come into the office for proper care, or at least they do not come in soon enough. I've always sort of liked my musical-sounding name of Click Clack. The Doctor of Chiropractic simply refers to me as Unnecessary. That hurts!

When I visit your body, consult your Doctor of Chiropractic FIRST!Sacroiliac Trouble
