What are the things you'll need to live a happy life? It is rightly said that ‘Health is Wealth’. Good health is the primary requirement to lead a happy life as well as earn more money. We often hear about certain accidents in the shearing industry. Often shearers succumb to deadly injuries caused either by using outdated equipment or due to some faults on the part of the management.

Here are some of the safety measures that need to be taken considering the safety of the shearers:

First Aid:

If anyone needs any assistance for injuries, first-aid is the first thing that comes to mind. First-aid treatment often prevents the injuries of the employees from getting serious. So, a first-aid box should always be available at the woolshed.

Harassment:

Harassment is a type of behaviour that results in humiliation, isolation, or exclusion. It can take many forms, such as sexual harassment, bullying, or racial discrimination. If someone is harassed, the Overseer and Management should investigate the situation.

Hazardous Substance Spill:

There should be no hazardous substances inside the wool shed where employees work, but if there are, stay away from them. If any hazardous substance, dangerous goods, or fuel is leaking, make the area as empty as possible before informing the farmer or client. The spills should be reported to the Overseer and the Client.

Effects of Extreme Weather:

Hazardous situations can arise as a result of bad weather. Bad weather, such as heavy rain, floods, snow, high winds, and other natural disasters, can cause work to be halted and workers to be injured. The Overseer is in charge of making decisions such as whether or not to stop working, how and when employees will be transported to the safest possible location, and so on.

Use of Proper Shearing Equipment:

Using outdated and faulty shearing equipment often leads to dangerous accidents. The management should keep a check on the equipment and replace it with the new and modern ones at regular intervals.
